A few helpful tips:

1. The cheaper option will be the cruise – the shorter will be the Li River-part (buses can drop you off in the middle of the water scenic route). Normal one way time should be 4 (or maybe even 5 hours) plus an hour or two on the bus from Guilin to the pier.

2. Join a Chinese group. There isn’t any deep information to get on board. It will make your trip at least 20% cheaper.

3. Don’t get back to Guilin immediately, stay in Yangshuo for a few days. What can you do there? More on that in the appropriate Lomolocation :)

4. Some people say that a cruise only around Yangshuo is enough (and much more on the budget side). Well, maybe, but here we’ve decided to follow the brand and see the whole part of the river with all the named rocks.

Chinese like symbols and think very illustratively. Almost every rock on the way has its own name. You will probably get the booklet of all the rocks’ names. You’ll see how particular people choose the rocks to have a picture with. Perhaps you’ll choose one of your own too :)
