Harding Icefield Trail, Kenai Fjords National Park

Our first real adventure into the wild.

My girlfriend and I decided to go see some National Parks in Alaska for our first real outdoor adventure. It’s a long way from New Jersey, but that was kind of the point.

Kenai Fjords National Park was our first stop. We were only staying in Seward a few days, and figuring this to be a rare opportunity when it comes to vacations, we decided to tackle the 7.4 mile round trip Harding Icefield trail. The views only got monumentally better with every mile up the mountain, ranging from the valley floor, to wide open meadows, and finally the icefield itself. The trail winds up the mountain along side Exit Glacier for most of the hike, giving you a wonderful view of the giant ice beast.

We didn’t get 100 feet into the hike and the light mist that would consistently fall for the rest of the day had started. I was afraid for my camera, but luckily I got a few chances to make some exposures. I haven’t seen much yet, but Alaska has been one of the grandest places I’ve been to yet and I highly recommend visiting if you have the funds/opportunity.

Although the weather can be gloomy often, it's still a wonderful place to see.
