This is one of the wonders of the world! The wall was built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from Xiongnu attacks. The Great Wall stretches over approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) from Shanhaiguan in the east to Lop Nur in the west. The wall itself can be seen from the earth’s low orbit! So they say ;) The watchtowers along the wall are a very impressive feature. The details on the brick work were interesting.
These images of the Great Wall were taken at the lomo congress held in 2004 which took place in Beijing – China. The Great Wall is a really cool place to visit and you need to take a cable car up to the top unless you want to walk all the way up :) You get a great sense of history, and it feels like your traveling back in time somehow.
