In Bucureşt in Romania a place where has a lot of given name or cliches.
This City has many names and cliches given: from “Paris of the East” , “Moscow of the West” or “the city we all love to hate”. I can tell you somehow these fit at first glance but this city has more to offer than clichés, it has its own original style and flair that you might not find somewhere else.
Bucureşti may feature all this clichés because of that wide variety of styles. Mostly this wild style mix is just referred to the architecture in all travel guides – which is for sure true – but it as well fits all the other things you might find in a city from people to food to fashion, just name it the variety will mostly be there and that “wild by heart”.
When you roam the streets of Bucureşti you feel that vibrant mood all around you, you can feel that you are in a city where things are breaking up and in transformation. This transformation though has many colors and for sure as well some darker shades that might not be that inviting but you know this shadow and light game and that you can expect here and as well to be surprised.
Reading about this city before you go there might be helpful, for me the comparison of truth and fiction was an positive disappointment because I feel that no article or story I read before the trip made it up with what is really there to see and experience. So one cliché after all might be true: “the city we all love to hate” but just when it comes to stories written about the city.
If you go there open hearted and open minded and adjust your self to the fact that some things might be different and that it is a fast moving fascinating “beast” in transaction that as well likes to slow down from time to time and to dwell, the hate will vanish and dissolve in love for a different and unique rhythm and style.
See you soon again Bucureşti!
