Bangkok was our first stop in the land of the smiles. It is the main capital of Thailand with Suvarnabhumi airport acting as a hub to hundreds of international destinations. Sawadeeka Thailand!
As soon as we landed I was already impressed by the sophistication and size of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport. We managed to find a taxi to take us to the center of the city. Oh boy was that a ride! I was on the edge of my seat and upon checking how fast we are going I realized the speedometer of the taxi wasn’t working!
We stayed in Bangkok for a good four days and made full use of our time by exploring as much as we can. I studied my Lonely Planet religiously in search for orientation and insider dibs and tips. This metropolitan city is very enormous so traveling with a map is a must!
On my first day, I decided to visit the Lomographic Embassy of Thailand and what a mission that was! After taking the local bus to the correct MRT line (Bangkok’s metro) then switching to the BTS (Bangkok’s Skytrain), I finally reached the urban area of Sukhumvit, only to be disappointed – the embassy was closed and it was a weekday! I didn’t make an appointment with them so if you wanna go, it’s best to call them first! So to cheer myself up we walked to Cabbages & Condoms restaurant, which is a funny place! They give you a free condom with a meal in order to promote safe sex (important in the land where prostitution is widely accepted).
I also made time to check out Wat Pho, the famous reclining Buddha that Leo was seen visiting in “The Beach.” It’s a long one! Besides that, I enjoyed plenty of temple visits, tuk-tuk rides and fun nights out in Khao San road. There’s plenty to do here and make sure you say “sawadeeka” to all the smiles you meet on the street!
