Nº 7 National Route to The High Mountain (Mendoza)

Road Trip to the Chilean border in the state of Mendoza, Argentina. Last year I lived for six months in Argentina and the most exciting trip I took was to Mendoza especially the road trip towards the Chilean border. I expected a nice little trip but was positively surprised by the fascinating landscapes of Mendoza.

Last year I lived for six months in Argentina and the most exciting trip I took was to Mendoza especially the road trip towards the Chilean border. I expected a nice little trip but was positively surprised by the fascinating landscapes of Mendoza.

This fabulous trip includes some amazing sights, such as the great panoramic view of Potrerillos, the Penitentes Ski Center were we snowboarded a bit and the kids enjoyed sliding down the slope on the bottoms a lot and the truly beautiful Puente del Inca, a calcareous ochre formation over Las Cuevas River which has thermal waters. In 1965, the hotel installations that used them were destroyed by an avalanche leaving just the remains. Native people say that these waters have healing properties due to the great amount of sulfur they contain.

And last, but not least, we went to the Aconcagua vantage point. Among all the marvels you can find in Argentina, one of the most imposing ones is the Aconcagua, the king of the Andes mountains, which gained its nickname : “Sentry of America” due to its 6,962 meters that make it the highest mountain of the continent.

What a great trip.
