Cappadocia - Intriguing Land of Eruption Rocks

Cappadocia is volcanic eruption rocks area. In first 2 centuries A.D. people realized they are soft and are good material for carving out whole cities in them. You can see lot of houses, churches and monasteries made in rocks there. We took a 10 hour overnight bus ride from Istanbul to Goreme but it was definitely worth it.. Ice and snow.

We have visited few cities like Göreme, Uchisar, Avanos, Urgup, Devrent and Imagination valley… We were also in underground city. This is not for the claustrophobic! These underground cities span up to 8 floors underground, with windy tunnels leading through them….Cappadocia is intriguing not only on pictures, sometimes it looks like from some unknown planet. Even some scenes of StarWars have been filmed there.

Goreme is one of my favorite places on earth. It is a little village in Cappadocia, surrounded by magnificent landscapes. “The Valley of Fairy Chimneys” is truly like something out of a dream – it’s hard to believe you’re really seeing it. The area is sprinkled with these giant finger-like rock formations that have been dug out and inhabited. There is a lot of hiking and sightseeing to do here.

We rent a motorbike. There are rental places all over the center of town. I didn’t have any equipment but the owner gave me a leather cover to protect myself from the icy wind. Anyway I scream in pain for the cold. The vistas will blow your mind. Capadoccia is simply not to be missed. Although it is pretty out of the way from the rest of the sites in Turkey, it is well worth the trip.
