Khao San road is a strip not to be missed when you are making a pit stop in bustling Bangkok. It is a street that literally never sleeps! In its early hours this street is already crowded with locals selling mouthwatering foods & beverages you would want to fill your belly with! Yummy fruits, fatty crab cakes, thirst quenching coco shakes, millions of satay sticks will make your eyes bounce from left to right. Make a stop at the OJ lady to get your fresh squeeze of the day!
Khao San road is also famous for its abundance of affordable backpacker lodges and hostels, which is why this spot is crowded with farangs (Westerners). However, if you do not want your beauty sleep to be disturbed, I suggest you stay a few roads down or in Ratchamburri street which is just around the corner of Khao San. It’s only a five minute walk but I rest assure you that you won’t wake up in the middle of the night from pumping bass lines coming from choices of clubs and bars in Khao San.
Seriously, at night this spot seems to be at its prime crime time with more crowds flowing through to shop, eat, party and get wasted! The street is filled with local vendors trying to sell you anything from rubber masks, dancing robots, live animals, graphic print shirts, the coolest sunnies at a “very cheap, cheap price” of course!
Go have a drink to digest the craziness of Khao San and when you do, don’t forget to try those buckets! A little warning – just don’t have too many of those like me, or you will lose yourself, your friends, your camera, your phone and probably break your ATM card. Have fun and say hi to Mr. Thailand!
