Snæfellsjökul - Glacier Cold

Iceland is great, Iceland is crazy and Iceland is cold. Sometimes you start mixing all these characteristics. Like me. I went there in Oktober and all I brought with me was a lousy pair of chucks. Just think about it. I brought long underwear but sneakers with holes and made from cloth as thick as a sock. All the same I went to the Glacier Snæfellsjökul, which is two hours drive from north-west of Reykjavik on the peninsula Snæfellsnes. I didn´t feel the temperature, because my feet were numb anyway, as well as my mind when I captured the ridiculous sight.

There was no snow at that time on the island, but as we went up the hill our car was stopped by heaps of wet snow. We climbed afar and in silence like eremites. You pretty much got the feeling for a rock, which is inhabited by brave vikings. Cool people call the mountain Snæfell, and doesn´t it go easy from the lips? And this miraculous place is in the center of one of favorite novels and films of all times. Jules Verne made the Snæfellsjökul the entrance for his heroes in “the journey to the center of the world”! Maybe you still find the hole?
