Portobello (London)
written by neja on March 7th, 2009 , 3 submissions , 3 comments (3 votes)

Everybody knows Portobello. It is famous for it’s antique market, along with flea market happening on Saturday and food market going on all week. There are not many places in London where you can get a branch of artichokes for just one pound and tomatoes are cheaper than in Tesco.

But what you need before start navigating up and down the Portobello road is the search of something special? Vitamins. Where to get them? Right! Fresh juices are your salvation. Try juice bar just in the beginning of the famous road, approx. opposite the Lazy Lady Coffee Shop. Asian sellers are super friendly, prices are affordable and they can mix you any fruits you like. Bought almost everything? Feeling hungry? Some people insist that there are no good falafels in London. Maybe they are right, but maybe not. Try the falafel place in the end of Portobello Road, just opposite the clothes market which is under the bridge. There your falafels are going to be really fresh and juicy. Choose yourself how spicy you want it otherwise too many chillies can turn you into a dragon. Here you can get real mint tea as they do it in the Middle East and fresh juices of course.

You can stand and eat inside looking at super fast falafel makers (mmm, how many moves per second?!) or you can sit outside staring at people passing by or you can mix up with impressively looking at Jamaican fashionistas around the corner. These guys are usually listening to reggae, dub and dance hall all day long and it is nice if you are into it.
