Nyhavn (meaning new harbour) was constructed in 1670 to encourage both trade and shipping. You can find along the quayside of Nyhavn that houses have been built on the two opposite sides – one side contains Charlottenborg castle and blocks of flats and on the other side, there are a series of houses built of brightly painted timber.

Nyhavn is a chic & fashionable place to hang out, and is very popular with tourists. Nyhavn is an ideal spot to wander or just sit and watch the world pass you. One of the most famous residents of Nyhavn was the fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. You can also take a canal tours departing from Nyhavn to see many of the important sights around here, including the little mermaid. The canal wind into the inner parts of Copenhagen (Kobenhavn) and is a great way to see a different perspective of this most beautiful city. Of course it’s a perfect spot for a lomographer as you never know quite what will happen next !
