Novosibirsk is one of the biggest cities in Russia behind the Ural. The City lies on both banks of the Ob river. The day when construction of the new bridge across the Ob river was started is considered to be the day when Novosibirsk was founded. In 1993 Novosibirsk celebrated it’s 100th anniversary and it’s growing rate is so high, that we can call the city the Russian Chicago.
Novosibirsk having been initially built to serve as an important railroad junction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Novosibirsk is situated in Siberia, where (everybody knows it!) bears walk down the streets back and forth :-))). There are no bears here at all with an only exception of those from the circus, wearing muzzles and leads, and used to attract the attention of tourists. Sometimes in winter the temperature falls as low as to – 40C or even lower. However, such frosts do not occur each year and, besides, their duration rarely exceeds two or three days.
