If you need a place to relax rounded by intense green valleys, sheeps, and sound of the water, this is your place
Gujuli is a really small village near Vitoria (30 km), in the north of Spain. It doesn’t even appear in the Google maps. To get there, you must take the road from Vitoria to Bilbao and take the exit to Izarra. Then, follow a serpentine road though all kinds of green valleys until this lost and peaceful place. The village is lost between mountains and you listen to a great cascade somewhere near. If you follow the sound of the water, crossing the old railways (sometimes the silence is corrupted by an old train sound, but it is also fine for pictures, isn’t it?) you’ll find a 100 meters cascade that falls in a canyon of great beuty.
The walk is great with sheep’s, horses and intense green surrounding the path. Everything is peaceful there, mountains, nature, sheep’s and green forests. Just 100 mt from the cascade, you can rent a house ( Casa Ugarzabal). The owners are a young couple that will surely recommend you nice activities as mountain bikes, quads, horse riding and the most spectacular one, a trip in a hot-air balloon. After some exercise you just can seat on the terrace and keep quiet listening to the sounds of nature and the fireplace. No cars, no crowd… just you, the water, green fields and your lomo cameras. The food there is also incredible, of course.
The best time of the year to go there is spring (when the green is intense) or in autumn to have all kinds of oranges and yellows.
