Clark Air Field (Angeles)
written by halfawakehaiku on February 20th, 2009 , 10 comments (6 votes)

During the Vietnam War, Clark Airfield was used by the USAF as a base for their bombing operations. It was considered as the backbone for supporting all US operations in South East Asia. After the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the early 90’s, the Americans abandoned their base and since then, what was once considered as a city plagued by red light districts has been transformed into one of the most progressive places north of Manila.

With the establishment of Special Economic Zones and an international airport used by budget airlines operation in Asia. Clark serves as one of the ideal jump points to other key tourist sites around the country. The newly opened SCTEX high way makes travel to other lomolicious sites like Tarlac and Zambales easy. The highway itself is also a great place to shoot as the picturesque countryside is also easy on the eyes. The best time to visit Clark would be around the middle of February during the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Getting there is pretty easy. There are a lot of bus lines that travel to Angeles City and it only takes about an hour and a half and costs about Four US dollars. While in Clark, it’s a must for you to sample the famous pork dish “Sisig”. It’s made of crunchy pork ears and tasty liver served with chili peppers and lime and is a staple of Filipino drinking session. So don’t knock it till you try it.
