In August 2007, I swam around Pennock Island in Alaska, with my best friend Cheryl to raise money for diabetes. The swim was 8 miles and we each did 4. We spent a week in Ketchikan, unusual for visitors there, as most visitors come through on apartment-sized cruise ships for just an afternoon. We ended up befriending some local people who shared some of their lives with us - Rich the water taxi driver was one of the most memorable. He had us over to his home for a fish dinner fresh from the sea, and took us on several boat rides.

Ketchikan is the rainiest place in Alaska, and also known as the Salmon capitol of the world. We saw this as Rich took us on a few tours in the evening, the salmon jumping everywhere from the water.
Another memorable experience was a float plane tour we took through the Misty Fjords National Monument. We ended up down in some very remote, untouched areas, starkly reminded of our own frailty.

photo six... it's absolutely brilliant. Great landscape, and the plain almost give the photo some kind of cinematic scene. Great job and good luck to the funds raising.
