Growing up in the metropolis, us kids nowadays have no idea of what the simple life really is. Growing your own food and using the good earth for nourishment is a value all but unknown to most. There are however, places where these things can be taught to the next generation such as Leisure Farms up in the hills of Batangas.
A few months back, a handful of Lomomanila members were invited to visit the country’s first agricultural theme park.So armed with a bag full of cameras and a few rolls of film we trotted out to Leisure farms. It’s a place where farming is taught in a very engaging way. Visitors can choose places that might tickle their interest such as the butterfly garden where lush flowerbeds are sure to delight lomographers with the LC-A macro lens. If you fancy the icky side of life then the Worm’s World section where Vermiculture is taught is where you should be. The Mangoes of the Philippines are legendary, and here they managed to breed a tree that actually bears the fruit of 8 various types of mangoes. They also have perfectly round eggplants, red on the outside and yellow in the inside watermelons.
You can plant some rice in the terraces and go fishing for your lunch at the pond. It’s best to come in the morning just in time for their sumptuous grilled golden tilapia, and w with fresh coconut juice. In the afternoon you can opt to go horseback riding around the area or maybe a leisurely swim ought to be a nice way to cap the day. Don’t forget to take home some fresh vegetables, fruits and spices all organic of course. There are plenty of places to see and things to shoot there. Who knew farming could be such fun.
