A few weeks ago I went to see a competition of short track ice skating. Short track is a kind of speed skating which is ran on a standard ice rink (hockey rink size) instead of a bigger rink as used in long track speed skating…
This sport is really interesting to look at, thanks to the speed the skaters reach (more or less 60 km/h which on these sketchy turns is really impressive) and also thanks to the tactic aspect of the races. It’s a bit like track cycling pursuit, you see these six guys evaluating each other until one picks the right moment for an acceleration and tries to pick the win!
Of course it’s also a great place to make a few cool shots! First of all the track is quite small so you should be able to actually see the skaters on you shots… And usually they wear bright colorful suits so that can be a good point for you lomographer!
I recommend you to use high ISO film for short track is usually inside, and fast so you will need short exposure times! Oh and it would be good you are quite used to you camera… I shot a black & white roll (Fuji Neopan 1600) with my F65 (which I don’t use much often), and most probably the sensor didn’t appreciate all that icy white… All my shots were underexposed! But I managed to save a few of them… Enjoy!
