Tagaytay: Home of the cute volcano
written by halfawakehaiku on February 1st, 2009 , 3 comments (1 vote)

I remember going to Tagaytay as a child on weekends. How my Mom and Pop would bring me there for stargazing, horseback riding, camping or just to enjoy the crisp cold air that’s a luxury in a tropical country. The hills of Tagaytay are situated approximately 45 minutes from Manila. Couples, Friends and Families usually trek to the place for a quick weekend escape from the trappings of the city.

A wealth of activities are available to people wherever they choose to go. For the scenic chill-out vibe Cable cars, spas , and picnic grounds can be found in various locations. In this quiet and pleasant town , the world’s smallest active volcano Taal can be found. A short boat ride can take you to the volcano, and horses and guides are available if you want to go up the crater while your there.

There are also wonderful restaurants in Tagaytay, some of them even grow their own vegetables and are fresh and organic as can be. Take your pick from cheap, mid range to upscale restaurants clustered together overlooking the lake and the volcano. While there, try to find a place that serves the locale’s most famous food called “Bulalo” which is Beef Bone marrow soup. I promise you will swear by this dish once you get a taste of the soft melts in your mouth goodness meat and marrow. Weather you use a knife to pick out the marrow or you bang those huge bones on the table to get to it is entirely up to you. We might take a photo but we sure as hell won’t judge. Also, try the various freshly baked Coconut and Pineapple Pies sold by the roadside. For a romantic take on the place various boutique hotels and garden hotels are a good way to while away your troubles. They offer complete romantic packages for couples which include the room, a nice dinner and a good hearty breakfast. If you’re lucky you just might see the fireflies gathering in the garden.
