Last week, that was Saturday (sunny Saturday to be exact) me and some Lomomanila friends waked up so early in the morning (that it was dark) and paved our way to Sicogon Island. The morning was a bit cold, and for the next 2 hours and 30 minutes, I slept inside the van.
Well, Sicogon Island can be located in the northeastern part of the province of Iloilo. It’s a big island with only a few people living there. Limpid, clear waters, lovely white sands, nice scenic view and to top it, friendly people! These are my finest descriptions if one would dare ask me what the hell is Sicogon Island.
From Iloilo to Estancia (or you can also go to Carles, which is the dead-end town of the province) takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. From Estancia, there will be an available boat ride that can accommodate only up to 10-15 people and comes with a price of around 1,300-1,500 Pesos (a roughly 20-25 US Dollars) to and fro. Well, the boat ride will take you around an hour before reaching Sicogon Island but along the way, you’ll see magnificent views of big islands, mountains and horizons.
But before getting excited of going there and diving in the lovely blue waters or snap some pictures like us, we tried to visit the marketplace and bought some fish, pork and what-nots for us to feed ourselves while staying in the island. It’s actually a remote island where few people live there and since it’s private, we have to ask permission for the land-owner to stay there (be sure to clean your mess before leaving).
It’s really a nice place! The whole day was exhausting but really - going there could never give you regrets!
