The Legendary Dauniškis Lake

As I have mentioned earlier Utena County is the land of 1000 lakes. To be correctly there are 1002 lakes in this quit small territory. Two lakes are located in the middle of city of Utena. One of them is well known not only for great park surroundings but also by two very interesting legends. This is Dauniškis Lake.
This is one of the most attractive places in the city. There are great park near this lake where citizens can rest and spent peaceful moments of their daily life. In summer this is popular place for swimming lovers. In the winter when the lake is frozen you can find here a lot of ice-skaters. Almost all year long you can find here plenty of birds such as ducks and swans. They love this place because lovely citizens shares bit of bread with them.
There are two very interesting legends about this lake. I don’t know if it is true or not but every citizen know them. The first one is that during the World War 2 the German tanks was trying to make shortcut and pass the frozen lake…but the ice cracked down and the tanks went down to the bottom.
The second legend tells why it is not possible to find these tanks : ) it tells that during the soviet occupation the Lake was so polluted that it haves 7 bottoms made from silt and trash. In the one hand this legend tells true because this lake was really polluted and it was banned to swim in it for couple of years. In the other hand the city government did their job and now this lake is clean and I really doubt about these 7 bottoms : )
