I’m half Corsican from my mother. From my birth to my 17 I’ve been spending my summers in Corsica. My family is based in the north bt I’ve visited almost the whole isle. Once we went to visit Bonifacio, at the extreme south. After wandering in the city, we took a small boat to go the the Lavezzi Islands, an archipelago situated at five kilometers from Bonifacio.

These islands are really beautiful. You can see mouflons, a sort of mountain sheep’s with big spiral horns. You can also see Sicily without binoculars. These islands are well-known for a tragedy. The Sémillante shipwreck in 1855. The frigate leaved Toulon to go to the Crimée’s war, but never arrived. Reefs, during a storm, have caused the sinking. Almost 600 corpses were retrieved, while the Sémillante had 700 people on board, and were buried in two cemeteries.
The archipelago is a nature reserve since 1982, and is a part of the Strait Bonifacio’s nature reserve since 1999, which is part of the international marine reserve project.
