The New Iloilo International Airport
written by ethermoon on January 20th, 2009 (0 votes)

Long ago, Iloilo Airport flies domestically. Flying outside to other countries would make you link to Manila first for a connecting flight.

Now, the new airport offers international flights that would direct you outside the country. The new airport now sits in the plains of Cabatuan, Iloilo. It’s like an old toy with a brand new start (like a Smena, or an LC-A)! Clean facilities and a single runway offers travelers yet another calm place to stay before departing the city.

The new airport consists of a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. It has a 12,000-square-meter (130,000 sq ft) main passenger terminal. Iloilo International Airport can support aircraft as large as the Boeing 767 and the Airbus A330. Larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A340, can be supported, albeit with weight restrictions. Runway lights and an Instrument Landing System were also installed, making the airport capable of supporting low-visibility and night landings.

Iloilo International Airport is connected to Iloilo City proper via the Tomas Confesor Highway. At Bangga Gama in Santa Barbara, a bypass branches from the highway, leading to a 3-kilometer road which links the airport complex to the highway. The access road is wide enough to be able to accommodate four lanes of traffic. The estimated travel time to the airport from Iloilo City proper is around thirty minutes.
