As everywhere in Germany, the December is the great period of the Christmas markets, with various names (Weinachtsmarkt, Christkindlmarkt, etc…) to enjoy this cold period of the year with a lot of lights everywhere, boutiques and many occasions to drink some hot beverages like the Glühwein, Punsch or Feuerzangenbowle….

I discovered this year in Munich a huge Christmas market held on the Theresienwiese (the same place where’s held the famous “Oktoberfest” beer festival…) and much more than a simple market. It’s called the “Tollwood Winterfestival” and offers since over 20 years a lot of different shows, concerts, various activities, shopping and simple eating & drinking pleasures to the people of Munich.
Entrance to the general area is free and you can enjoy there all the Christmas shopping boutiques and have some good time by drinking these hot & spicy alcoholic (or not) beverages who are always welcome when the temperature at night goes below 0° or is near of it! If you’re hungry, you can find a lot of various places to taste real local specialties, candies and Christmas cakes (mhmm, waffles….) or even different foreign meals (the “Türkische Oase” was not bad at all ;))

If you’re in Munich at the winter/Christmas time, spend some time at the Tollwood market & festival, you’ll enjoy it for sure! :))
