Wuxi, the not-so-big metropolitan for Chinese scale (4.5 millions) serves as a strong industrial center and is considered one of the less attractive city among those prosperous, resided on Grand Canal.

However, there are reasons to spend in Wuxi a few days (and more on that later), and while you are there it’s worth to visit one of the best parks, named Xihui (get to there by crossing the Grand Canal). So melancholic, cozy and silent, its empty carousels and alleys embrace you with an atmosphere of the well-forgotten childhood.

Once inside, you can get on the cable car, that will take you to the top of the Hui Hill (Hui Shan in Chinese) to enjoy the views. You can also climb on the other hill, crowned with Longguang Pagoda (Longguang Ta) or enter the dragon jaws cave, walk 10 minutes in the dark corridors and see where you’ll get out :)

Wuxi can serve as an excellent stay-point for a day trips to Lake Tai or to Yixing County (the latter name is breathtaking for the real Chinese tea fans). Once you’ve done all that (or before) – catch a bus or train to the beautiful gardens of Suzhou
:)
