Rhine promenade, Düsseldorf

If you come to Düsseldorf, you’ll probably want to see the Old Town. But when you’re already there (and if the weather’s only halfway decent) you should go down to the Rhine and stroll down the Rheinuferpromenade (Rhine Embankment Promenade).

From almost everywhere in the Old Town it just takes a few minutes to get down to the Rhine. And it’s in this area where the promenade is probably at its busiest – there’s café, restaurants, and in summer even beach bars with real sand where you can get everything from ice-cream to a real meal or exotic cocktails. These places are a bit more on the expensive side. Alternatively you can buy a pizza or ice-cream in the Old Town and sit down on the stairs leading down to the Rhine from Burgplatz, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, sit on the embankment wall and dangle your feet over the water and watch the ships go by.

But you don’t have to be lazy and sit around all the time. You can walk along the embankment in either direction for a fair while. It’s also nice for skating or biking.
Walking south, you’ll eventually get to the NRW State Parliament, the Rhine Tower and the Media Harbor. Walking north, it’s a little less crowded, you’ll get to the Rhine park. Either way, you’ll run across lots of motifs for your lomographic ambitions!

To get there from the Old Town, just follow the signs pointing you in the right direction. It’s hard to miss!
