Karimunjawa Islands

One day an instant message pop-up on my screen, “hey, my uncle is going to Karimunjawa for his works, wanna come with us?” Kariwunjawa Islands consists of 27 little island, it is located in the north side of Central Java, Indonesia (on the map I marked Jepara, it’s actually the white dots on the north of it).
It took a 10 hours bus drive from where I live in Bandung to Jepara and another 6 hours to cross to Karimunjawa with ferry boat. It all worth the time once you get there you instantly see the light blue sea. The thing is Karimunjawa is not really a developed tourist part so whatever you want to do here you have to ask the locals. Just like when we first got there, because we don’t know where we have to stay. Finally we were shown this little inn called Wisma Karimunjawa near the port. Oh, another thing across the street there is a small restaurant called Warung Ibu Ester, you have to try it, it’s cheap and it’s good. I eat there everyday.
You could rent a boat for a day, the rate is around IDR 300.000 that’s less than US$ 30 (even cheaper than my holga). And we go to the beautiful island of Menjangan Besar, Menjangan Kecil, Cemara Besar Cemara Kecil, and also Tanjung Gelam. It took around 45 minutes from one island to another. The beach is crazy, it all surrounded with white sand, light blue calm sea, you can also snorkel there, but the best thing is there’s one else around but you. from the 27 islands in Karimunjawa only 2 are inhabited. It feels like your own private paradise.
One other thing you can do there rent a motorbike and take a ride around the island of Karimun. There’s only one road so you won’t get lost. I recommend you go to Nirwana Beach. Or just stop every time you see a beach like what I do. It’s all beautiful. I took my LC-A and my Holga to this trip. Hope the pictures will make you wanna go there :)
