Christmas market in Erfurt

The whole city center of Erfurt is stuffed with little huts full of sales booths with handcrafts and all kinds of Christmas food you can think of.
Hot spiced wine, candied almonds, gingerbread, and sweet chestnuts – to name only a few treats – can’t be missed when strolling around a German Christmas market. However, don’t eat too much! Otherwise you will get a big belly like Santa Claus.
There is also a little artificial forest with characters from famous fairy tales for children on the market’s biggest part in front of the cathedral of Erfurt. Nevertheless, Snow White, Cinderella & Co. offer great motives for adult lomographers, too. The figures look kind of surreal to me.
I also like very much the nostalgic carousels. There is even an old double deck carousel. You can also find a little Medieval Christmas market right behind the famous Krämerbrücke. There you can drink for example “Ritterfurz” which means literally “Knight’s fart” and is actually a liqueur. Each year the Christmas market starts in the end of November and ends around 22th of December. It’s open from 10am to 8pm from Sunday to Wednesday and from 10am to 9pm from Thursday to Saturday.
