National Maritime Museum and Naval College

The National Maritime Museum is a stunning piece of Architecture which spans the lower levels of the slopes of Greenwich Park. Running parallel to the River Thames, it also includes the 17th century Queens House.

As a museum the collections hold some 2.48 million items, just a bit too much to cram into one day so if you find that all a bit mind boggling then stay outside and walk around the wonderful palladian colonnades with views back up to the Old Observatory or down through the Naval college
to the Thames.

Greenwich high street is only around the corner and the remains of the once majestic Cutty Sark are still there, being repaired after the fire. The Museum is free but some special exhibits have to be paid for. Architecturally the site is very important as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the museum was once The Royal Hospital School and the largest school of navigation and seamanship founded in 1694 by King William III and
Queen Mary II.

Worth a visit is the Tulip Staircase in the Queens House, a real beauty! and considered to be haunted whooo! If you don’t see the ghosts yourselves you could always recreate them lomo style. Catching the museum at the right time of day is great when there are few people wandering around the colonnades, this is the time to get some atmospheric pics.
