When you arrive in an unknown country and don’t want to spend a lot of many in any crappy Hotel, the best solution is always to have a look at the missionary centers of any catholic religious order. they have often a few rooms to let, and you can be very confident about what you get for a very low price.

That was my situation when I landed in Ouagadougou. Where could I go in this huge city and be sure to find a good price for a comfortable and trusty Hotel? My brother, who was often in Burkina faso, told me about this missionary house called “les Lauriers”, in the center of the twn, just behind the cathedral.

So I went there and met the very kind sisters of the Cistercian Order. They have 30 rooms with 2 beds in each and showers in some of them. The rooms and the sanitary are very clean, and as they have their own clean water reserve, you can drink it without any problem (because drinking no mineral water in Burkina Faso is often a kind of problem for your stomach…).

The place is very nice and quiet, in the center of the city but inside the parc of the cathedral, so you almost don’t hear the big noise of the city and in the same time don’t need any specific transport to make a walk in the town. A nice garden is surrounding the place and it’s so peaceful to sit down there in the morning or end of the day (when the heat is not too strong…). They also provide to eat, breakfast, lunch or dinner for a very good price and good food.

The prices: for a room it’s 5000 francs CFA, that means around 7€ and every meal is 2000 francs CFA, that is 3€. Really cheap for a nice and trusty place to stay in Ouagadougou!
