Hailed “the best rooftop bar in the world”, Sirocco at The Dome sits 64 floors above State Tower, the second tallest building in Bangkok, Thailand. Since opening in 2003, this popular hangout for “hi-so” (high society) folk and expats takes the highlife to a whole new level. At the dining area, guests can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine as the city’s best jazz bands serenade the city-lit night air.
At the circular balcony bar (the highest in Bangkok), one can enjoy a hair-raising view of the Chao Phraya meandering through luminous expressways whilst chitchatting away and sipping (very slowly) an overpriced cocktail. Don’t drink too much! The only thing separating your libations and the solid pavement 810 feet below is a clear glass barrier.
State Tower is located at 1055 Silom Road, Bangrak, Bangkok. Photography is only permitted in the bar area. To capture the night lights, load up on ISO 400 or ISO 800 film. Also, dress smartly: leave those backpacks at the inn.
