OK, so this isn’t on the list of big attractions for the city with a massive indoor mall and tremendous river valley. It’s probably not even any list of attractions for Edmonton. Nevertheless, there’s a good chance you’ll find me here if you stop by.
Mandolin Books and Coffee Company is a cozy little shop in the middle of a friendly neighborhood. What’s even better is that it’s MY friendly neighborhood. It’s about 5 blocks from home, and they do a better job of making coffee than I do.
I almost always stop in here on Saturday morning while running miscellaneous errands, and grab a coffee to go, or a latte if I have a moment to sit and enjoy it. If you’re in to hearing the neighborhood buzz, owners Boyd and Laura are ready to chat. Did I mention the baked goods? Muffins, squares, and other fine coffee companions are brought in daily from the BeeBell Health Bakery – the finest health food bakery in town.
Besides the food, there is always something to feast your eyes and ears on. Boyd and Laura host live music for an intimate crowd on Thursday nights, and each month brings a new art exhibit by a local artist. (I had the pleasure of showcasing some photographs a few years ago.)
And if you’ve got quality used books taking up valuable lomographic camera storage space, they’ll give you a fair price for them so you can go buy more film. :)
