Wutai Shan temples and mountains
written by breakphreak on December 08, 2008 (1 vote)

4 hours on the bus from Datong, China – and you’ll join the region of Buddhist temples and spectacular mountains. Pack well with warm clothes and carefully choose your hostel (there are plenty of and the place is cold in winter – below 0 Celsius degree is normal on 2-3 km high altitude:)

Start visiting the closest temples (Tayuan, Xiatong and the others). You cannot miss the Boddhisatva Peak, reaching it through 108 steps. During the next days (and it is very recommended to arrive to schedule 2-4 days for Wutai Shan) explore the nature and the far temples. Simply choose any direction and start climbing the mountains, one after another. You may eventually discover temples and pagodas, horses and forgotten villages, while enjoying the stunning view of the surrounding sometimes snowy peaks. Remember: the far a temple is – the less touristic and more picturesque will it be!

If you feel that you must to take a cheap taxi on your way back to hotel – means you’ve spent the day just right :)
