Every year, the rally arrives to Marinha Grande, it is a much expected event for many, a unique chance to see racing cars and classic cars competing each other trough the city and pine woods nearby.
The dynamic of the racing “circus” gives a different life to the city, the hot girls and fast cars makes peoples heart beat faster along with the engine noise and tires squeaking. Everybody goes to the streets to cheer and live the racing ambiance.
The rally usually consists in three different types of race, the super specials: specially designed tracks inside the city, one race during the day, the other at night; forest roads competition: specially designed tracks in the woods tarmac roads; and classic cars driving skills: small tracks inside the city where drivers have to avoid obstacles and drift; it is divided in two sections: professional and amateur.
It is a great opportunity for me to shoot different subjects, not just the cars, the competition ambiance provides great moments and opportunities to make great photos, specially with a Supersampler, Actionsampler or Oktomat, the motion of the racing cars makes excellent mini movies, just load a fast film and shoot until your finger hurts, if you don´t have any of this cameras grab your LCA or Fisheye (or any other Lomographic camera), load it with some X-pro film and take advantage of the ambiance and colors of classic cars race. One of the things you need to have always on your mind is your own safety, use only secure spots, and don´t try to make a close up to the headlights of a moving racing car ;)
