Peillon village behind Nice and Monaco
written by azurblue on December 1st, 2008 (0 votes)

Peillon a picturesque village behind Nice and Monaco. When you’ll be bored with beaches , pay a visit to the village of the hinterland. Take your car or a bus, drive 20 kms and discover a new world : olds villages, with narrow streets of cobblestones, houses in stones, ancient fountains, and old churches.

Peillon is a fortified village, perched like a eagle nest at a top of a cliff. A part of the town has been classified as a national historic monument site.
Peillon’s oldest houses date back to the XVIIth century. The church at the top of the village is of baroque influence.

The village’s treasure is the chapel of the « White Penitents » whose frescos were painted by Giovanni Canavesio in 1495. Close to it, is a funny bar, decored with funny vintage dwarfs.
