Le Gurp Beach

Le Gurp is a beach near the village Montalivet in south west France. This part of the French coast is famous for surfing and oysters. The whole area is surrounded by the so called French badlands of only sand an pine tree woods. The Beach itself is fairly shallow but getting deeper about 15 meters into the water; a big wave is the result.
You can find bunkers of WW II along the beaches in that area. They are mostly half buried in the sand. I stayed a camping ground near le gurp this summer for two sunny and warm weeks, being in charge of a summer camp with adolescents. We had hot summer days, bonfires at the beach and endless skimboard sessions.
It was that kind of summer I had when I was ten years old and the holidays never seemed to end. I tried oysters the last day of our stay. They taste like the sea, but I needed quite an amount of white wine to swallow them because of the consistence.
