Beuil / Old village of Mediterranean Alps. At 1500m high, Beuil is a very old perched village an hour drive north of Nice, in the renowned Mercantour National Park.
Beuil was originally a roman village, and during the medieval times the village followed the history of the Grimaldis, now reigning over Monaco. The village houses are steep-roofed alpine style, group tightly around the 17th-century stone church.
Near it’s romanesque bell tower, you will admire The Chapel of St. Jean Baptist with a beautiful trompe l’oeil façade, arcades, vaulted passages and doors dating back to the Middle Ages.
Beuil now lives on skiing in the winter, and hiking and viking in the summer. Many trails in the mountains around offer opportunities for loop hikes through beautiful larch forests.
