I finished my “master in communication studies” five months ago. To complete the second semester I had to write an eighty pages research dissertation. I choose to examine the amateur photography in the contemporary art. In Toulouse, each university has a specialty.
I was in the social sciences one, and I had to go to the humanities one which is far away from the center, to get all the books I needed on photography and contemporary art and artists, at the huge library. The Mirail library (BU in french, which means Bibliothèque Universitaire) is really crazy. You enter the building at level 2. If you are in 2 north and want to go to 2 south, you have to go upstairs, and then down stairs… if you want to go to 1, you have to go to 2 south and find the hidden elevator, the only way to go down. If you want to borrow or watch a DVD you have to go to 4 south, and if you find your book at 1, and want to make some photocopies… you have to go up to 3 to buy a card, do what you have to do, and then go down to 1 to put the book back on its shelf…
Did you ever read or see “les douze travaux d’Astérix”, when Asterix and Obelix have to get the A-38 pass in the administration building? Well, it is almost the same, but with books you need to borrow for your studies…
I’ve been there a lot last year… but if I go now, I’m pretty sure I can’t find my way anymore!!
