Le Marais (district of Paris, France)

Le Marais (meaning the marsh in French) is a district in Paris, France, traditionally a bourgeois area, but also a well-known historically. It spreads across parts of the 3rd and 4rd arrondissements in Paris (on the Right Bank - Rive Droite - of the Seine ).

Le Marais (meaning the marsh in French) is a district in Paris, France, traditionally a bourgeois area, but also a well-known historically. It spreads across parts of the 3rd and 4rd arrondissements in Paris (on the Right Bank – Rive Droite – of the Seine ).

The Marais’ district has several sights : bourgeois, Jewish, arty and Gay. One of the most interesting streets is the famous rue des Francs-Bourgeois, one of the rare streets of Paris completely open on Sundays, so Parisians and visitors alike can be found enjoying both sightseeing ans shopping on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Rue des Francs-Bourgeois offers a great mix of fashion, chic boutiques and home design, plus restaurants and cultural places to visit.

The rue des Rosiers is still a major center of the Paris Jewish community, which has met a renewal since the 1990s. Walls feature announcements of Jewish events, there are bookstores specializing in Jewish books, and there are also numerous restaurants and other outlets selling kosher food.

Rue Charlot, rue de Poitou, and rue de Bretagne are becoming more and more popular in le Marais due partly to the renovation of numerous historical buildings such as the Hôtel de Retz, its art galleries and showrooms.
There are several museums installed in ancient palaces such as Picasso Museum in Hôtel Salé, Carnavalet Museum (History of Paris), House of Victor Hugo in Place des Vosges, and the European House of Photography…

The neighborhood has experienced a growing gay presence since the 1980s, as evidenced by the existence of many gay cafés, nightclubs, cabarets and shops. These establishments are mainly concentrated in the southwestern portion of the Marais, many on or near the streets Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie and Vieille du Temple.

My pics were taken with a lubitel 2 and agfa rsx 200 x-processed.

C'est vrai ... mais rien que au jugé de la lumiére, sans cellule je suis souvent agréablement surpris. Et j'adore la qualité de l'optique. Belle série de photo en tous cas sur le Marais. J'aurais aimé en faire autant.
