Potsdamer Platz is a traffic junction of the Berlin district Tiergarten between the formerly city center of East Berlin and the new “Berlin West”.

Today it is a tourist attraction and very hip. 1990, shortly after the Fall of the Wall, Roger Waters performed the concert The Wall at the no man’s land between Potsdamer Platz and Pariser Platz. It was the biggest rock concert ever.

After the German reunification the question came up how to connect the two once divided parts of East and West again. After some see-saw the investors decided to realize the project of the international star-architect Richard Rogers – a skyscraper city for the 21st century. During 1990ies the Potsdamer Platz became the biggest construction site all over Europe.

There are now, rough-scaled, four different complexes: The Sony Center designed by Helumt Jahn (go there at night to have a drink, its ambient is fantastic!), the Bahn Tower, the area of Daimler where you can find debris-house designed by Renzo Piano and the 103m high Kohlhoff-Tower. When you visit Berlin go to Potsdamer Platz at night, it is fascinating to see all the skyscrapers illuminated towering into the night sky.
