Kitzeck is the highest vineyard village in Austria and is situated in the southern Styrian Vineland in the Sausal. Since 900 years there is cultivated vine because of the mild climate – even figs grow there! The Kitzecker vine is well known all over the country and even furthermore the boarders of Austria.
I spent some days there to enjoy the beautiful landscape and to taste the delicious vine. In this little village you can find some Buschenschank – a kind of “restaurant” with a familiar touch where you can drink vine (the owners of the restaurant use to have their own vineyards) and self-grown and -made dishes. It is really something special to eat and drink in such kind of restaurant. The people are very friendly and open there (at least most of the times).
Kitzeck is very small and if you go for a walk it does not last very long to see all there. But you should really enjoy the view you have and to breath the air which is very special.
