Schloßberg Graz

The Grazer Schloßberg is a 123 m high rock which lies on the waterside of the river Mur over the Grazer main square. Here you can find the town’s landmark – the Uhrturm.
You can reach the top with the Schloßbergbahn – some kind of elevator which brings you to the top without any struggle – or you can walk up by taking the footpath ascending 260 stairs. I preferred to walk up. It was a hot day and I arrived on the top of the Schloßberg sweaty and breathless. But when you are there it is worth all the effort because you have a really great view all over the city of Graz and also the surrounding up there is beautiful. You can sit down in one of the cosy restaurants or on a park bench or just stroll around and have a look at all the sights you can find there, like the Glockenturm (a bell tower), the Schloßberg- Kasematten, the 98m deep Türkenbrunnen (a fountain) and some little art objects. As a part of the Grazer Old Town it is one of UNESCOs world heritages.
When you reach the Uhrturm notice the little copy of the Uhrturm too. I found this more interesting than the big original.
In summer there are lots of events taking place on the Schloßberg.
