This small city Kostanjevica is an island, around is river, that why it is called Kostanjevica on Krka (slo. Kostanjevica na Krki). If you start from Ljubljana, you mast go by the highway direction Novo Mesto, Krško – Dolenjska, 1 hour 20min, you can"t miss board where to go down for Kostanjevica. It is near Zagreb too, highway from Zagreb – Ljubljana, 2 hours. The train come in Krško, 20min by bus from Kostanjevica.
It is a nice spot for people who likes small cities, with a Gothic cloister, big galery Galerija Božidar Jakac, lovely cave (Kostanjeviška jama), river trip, there is the first Forma Viva in Slovenia ( every year 3 new wooden statues), mountains, good food, good vine, a flight with balloon,….you can not imagine!!
My favorite place there is Krakov forest (Krakovski gozd), one part it is a virgin forest the other part is clean by foresters.
