Amoreira Beach (Aljezur)

Located in the Atlantic coast of the Algarve the Amoreira beach is a beautiful place to visit. It belongs to the Aljezur municipality (the word is derived from the Arabic word “Aljuzur” (الجزر), the plural of island) and it’s one of the many beaches hidden in the rocky cliffs that characterizes this region.

Although the water here is a bid colder than the one you find on the southern Mediterranean coast it’s still a awesome place to take a bath, specially during the summer months when you can also see a lot of surfers and body boarders that come to this region because of its good conditions for the practice of water sports. But if you’re not an ocean person you still have a local small river that reaches the sea at this beach, just choose!

There’s also a nearby camping park where you can stay and you can easily go to the beach by car, it takes only 10 minutes to get there. This summer (2008) I went there with some friends and it was just great, I recommend everyone! Enjoy!
