Vilkija ferry place

There are two ways to reach the Baltic coast of Lithuania traveling from the most of other lithuanian or european places. The first one and the fastest is the highway (lithuanian “autostrada”): higher speeds, two lanes and the journey lasts not so long.
The other way is to go through the smaller roads, and on of them is completing the Kaunas-Jurbarkas tour. In that course you will pass a very lovely town Vilkija. One interesting thing – it has got a different street form, where houses are situated just near it, leaving a small pavement near the narrow road. The town is on the hill, and if you’re lucky enough, you can find the museum of ethnography there. The main place, where you can have a break or lunch is the ferry place. Vilkija is situated near the biggest river of Lithuania, Nemunas, and it is the only way to go to the other side of the river (because bridges are just in Kaunas or Jurbarkas, 100 km distance). There is an old ferry port, where you can transport your car to the other side for pennies, but even without doing that you can still relax in the park near it. Sculptures, benches, rocks and other things attract not only travelers, but also weddings or other celebrations, because it is very good for photographing. What is more, you can always take a swim in the beach near it, or have an ice cream from the kiosk on the main road, just out of the park. Mysteriously good place, I stop there every time I pass it.
