Ahoy, you mountain lovers! Ahoy, you hikers and extreme leisure activity fans! This is a story from the heart of Mala Fatras mountainous region in Slovakia’s north-west. It is not so easy to find it, so please take a look at the map. OK, first thing when you get there, you need to find a place to stay (that’s easy – a lot of motels, hotels, accommodation offers from the natives and so on).
And then you can start your adventure. If you want to hike through the woods and little hills with the rifts, and passes, and little streams of rivers, with the nature all around you, please go back to the start of the village to the Hotel Diery (this is a start point for your hiking course). If you go to Terchova during the winter, go straight to Vratna – a skiing resort just some km from the village center.
There you can get up to the highest mountain of the Mala Fatra. If you go there in summer, you can get to the peak of the mountain as well and then just walk on the “heads” of the mountains. Imagine that you walk on the highest possible place of the mountain, just on the edge of it, and you can always pull yourself down to the left or to the right. What is more, the Terchova has got all you need: from shops to post offices, medical centers and so on. And there is one more thing: the statue of the native Slovakian “ala Robyn Hood” (at least the Slovakian told me that). The Good-bad person who robbed the rich and was always taking care of the poor. Ladies and Gentlemen, please let me introduce you to Mr. Jánošík, the legendary person, who is watching after the whole Terchova village just from the top of the hill.
