The State Fair Of Dallas, Texas
written by vtayeh on September 15th, 2008 (3 votes)

Each year, the State Fair of Texas is open for about one month during the fall. Every student enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and other local school districts are given a free ticket to go, so this event is very family friendly.

My family and I love to go on the last day because when you play the games at the “Midway” the hosts are more willing to give you a better prize than what you actually won versus other days of the month. And there are so many games to play… like “Chicken Soup” where you his catapult a rubber chicken into a pot that’s in motion or “Shotgun” where you use a shotgun to shot out a tiny red star on a piece of paper or even “Balloon Dart” where you throw darts at a wall full of balloons and try to pop as many as you can. A few of my favorite rides are the “Space Roller,” the “Wind Surfer” and the “Pirate Ship” (see pics). If you bring the little ones, don’t worry! They have a whole section of rides and games just for them :D

There’s a lot to see on a day at the fair. You should definitely bring cash for the games and cash for the ticket/coupons, which are used to buy the food, drinks, and snacks. One of my favorite things to buy is Fried Oreo Cookies. It’s really yummy! They dip the Oreos in funnel cake batter and deep fry the cookies until the batter is cooked… it tastes like a funnel cake and an Oreo all in one! You can also get fried candy bars like Fried Snickers or Fried Mars. Also don’t forget to go to the Auto Show Buildings. There is a display of newest and latest cars, trucks, vans, hybrids… etc. It’s a huge hit for the car guys and also to take a break from the hot sun, since the buildings are air conditioned.

At the website you can find all the info about the fair, maps of the park, directions to get there, to all the food you can taste, auto show details, and even a list of bands that will be playing through out the month. Address: 3921 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd; Dallas, TX 75180. Website:
