A wonderful discovery of the wonderful black and white Photoautomat at Feldstraße in Hamburg. I guess you all know those old instant photo booths where you could do 4 different snapshots (originally for using those pictures in your passport) or get as many of your friends into the cabin and try to get all the heads on one picture.
Suddenly those booths have disappeared from railways stations and underground stations where they had once been available for everyone. They had been replaced with those ugly digital photo booths where all pictures look the same. It was no longer funny to try to squeeze into the cabin.
But the old booths experience a revival. A few month ago one of the old black and white ones was installed at the old butchery grounds right across the underground station Feldstraße in Hamburg. You just have to insert 2€ and get a strip of four different REAL black and white pictures. It takes about 3-5 minutes until the pictures are developed. But it is worth waiting because it feels a bit like Christmas and Easter together when you finally hold the pictures in your hands, realizing that the first picture was taken too early (the expression on your face looks just totally dumb) and that you where to slow for the last one. I take pictures every time I’m there because 2€ is nothing compared to 5€ for digital crap.
If you like you can also upload your photo strip at www.photoautomat.de There you also get more information about other Photoautomat locations. In Hamburg you just have to take link U3 and leave at Feldstraße (next to the Bunker) and then cross the street. Keep left and tata there it is!!!
