The building, which is the central part of this area, was built in 1940 to serve as an industrial heating central.

In the 80’s it was abandoned and soon fell into the hands of go-ahead youths who found the place to be excellent for graffiti and rave parties. In the 90’s the “Röda Sten Culture Project” was founded to preserve the building and dedicate it to cultural events. During the years 1999-2000 the building was renovated and the place has since become a recreational area. For a period of time the building served as “free walls” for aspiring graffiti artists, but it seems to be a no-no nowadays.

Today you can, for instance, visit exhibitions, attend concerts, eat and drink at a restaurant/bar, enjoy the view of the harbor or simply take a loved one or friend out for a wonderful picnic or barbecue. The bridge “Älvsborgsbron” rises high above your head and creates a beautiful architectural silhouette in the sky.
