Usedom is an island in the Baltic Sea whose biggest part lies in Germany. The eastern part belongs to Poland. Because a lot of the towns and villages are health resorts it’s kind of quiet there. But sometimes the only thing you need is to escape from the rest of your life.

Especially the three „Kaiserbäder“ Heringsdorf, Ahlbeck, and Bansin are famous for their seaside-resort architecture from the 19th century. The pier in Ahlbeck still has its Wilhelminian style from the late 19th century. You can also find a lot of Art Nouveau elements and buildings there which is quite rare in Germany.

I like walking down the beach in fall or winter when only a few people are there. During fall on warm days you can even put your feet into the water.

Try the delicious German food at the “Brauhaus Usedom” in Heringsdorf! There they brew their own beers in huge copper tanks right in the guest room.
