After the Russians have won the Eurovision song contest I have to bow and say, what they really want they will get eventually. Well, and the 10 million dollar oil-money, that was needed to pay the song, written by Timbaland was helpful as well. But the one place that displays the state of mind of the largest country in the world is truly the red square in Moscow.

But the one place that displays the state of mind of the largest country in the world is truly the red square in Moscow.

Since the 15th century there has been a major square at site, mainly being used for markets and often suffered fire swaps. The current name was gained in th2 17th century and rather refers on the Russian team of “beautiful”, since “kracnaja” means “red and beautiful” at the same time in old Russian. As the Czar also the leaders of the soviet reign used the yard of the Kremlin to demonstrate their powers. But even more so under the rule of Putin the square served as the manifestation of gained confidence. I would recommend to witness “den pobedui” (day of victory), which remembers the victory of the red army over Germany.

Every year at the 9th of may the army parades and the military-officers get a stiff arm by holding it against their giant hats. For the Russians it is a holiday (for soldiers and likewise for all men!?!) and the pour in masses to the red square. And how practical, the big shopping temple “gum” is right next to the square and many of the new millionaires love to put their credit card on the counters of Cartier, Armani and D&G. For everyone the square is attractive because of the vast open field with the Saint Basil Cathedral at his end. For me the purest of all Russian building, which tells a story of a land in the middle of Europe and Asia.

And so why did I start about the red square while talking about the Eurovision song contest? Well, because most likely it will be the one place the next Eurovision will be held. As it was before, a great stage for the Rolling Stones, the Scorpions and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So best time to visit will be probably in may 2009, when Europe meets on the square.
